Italian for Beginners 


10 lessons, 2 hours each

Prerequisites: NONE

Topics of instruction:

  • To have a broad understanding of pronunciation rules

  • To start learning the different parts of speech in both English and Italian.

  • To know what is a noun, or an adjective, and the differences between the English and Italian language

  • To learn the Italian translation of "the".

  • To use the verb "to be".

  • To use the verb "to have".

  • To use regular Italian verbs.

  • To translate "a/an".

  • To know and use adjectives ending with "e"

  • Present indicative of some important irregular verbs

  • Modal verbs (be able to, to have to, to want to)

  • Prepositions A, DA, IN, CON, PER, with verbs to go, to come, to leave​

Goals and objectives:

  • To introduce yourself and others

  • To understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.

  • To ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know, and things you have.

  • To interact in a simple way.

  • To ask for and give basic information.

  • To greet and respond to greetings.

  • To use the polite form.

  • To describe people, appearance and personality

  • To invite someone, to accept/decline invitations

  • To describe your home 

  • To say what you like/don't like

  • To ask for and say an address, today's date, the time.

  • To talk about your spare time

  • To count up to 2000

  • Ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, etc)

  • Days of the week​

Additionally, you will be introduced to:

  • Various Italian cities and regions

  • Different kinds of public transportation in Italy

  • How Italians commonly pass their time
